How to Make the Most of Venus Retrograde

Self love is such an obtuse thing. What does it really mean? Without taking time to feed the inner self, it isn’t possible.

So, let’s get to it. The last time Venus went retrograde in Leo was July 25th to September 9th, 2015 with a month on each side for its shadow. Think back on that period and reflect on your relationships. I took a peek at this period and lo and behold, in spite of that Venus retrograde in the sign that rules love not transiting a house that rules relationships, it did bring a former beau Ihad dated for 4 years back into my life that August who proposed in October of 2015. I should have known better. Although it came with an $80,000 engagement ring to a Leo Sun man, it was not meant to be and by the following March we realized we really were not suited for one another after all and that the engagement’s real purpose was to take our relationship as far as we could to complete it.

So, I wanted to start this with a cautionary tale. Venus retros can bring break ups to relationships in a wobbly shape and even enhance committed relationships to go through their trials and tribulations. If you are in a relationship, make no firm decisions now until late October. I wouldn’t, however, join a dating site until October but there is good news. So, let’s look at the characteristics of Leo in its strengths and challenges: Leo rules both leadership and play so I would suggest leading with your heart this summer into what truly makes your heart sing. Leo rules the king, the performer, big-heartedness and generosity, as well as loyalty, and confidence. On the other hand, this sign is known for its narcissism, and tendency to create drama around them. The word narcissism has been thrown around a lot but most people do not know what it actually means. The true clinical definition of narcissism is not about being selfish, by the way. Aries have that reputation. No, it means that your sense of self and self worth comes from the reflection of others: if you are loved, you feel great. If you are criticized, you feel inadequate. Narcissus, in the Greek myth saw his reflection in a pond and fell in love with the reflection ( before we had mirrors and social media) and reached out to embrace him not knowing how to swim, and drowned in the water.

So, Venus retrogrades are meant to be a time for SELF reflection and self care. Take a look at your unhealed trauma wounds. Do you spend enough time in stillness alone? Do you give YOURSELF credit for good deeds done or accomplishments? This is an invaluable time the next few months to bring in embodiment practices that enhance true sovereignty such as setting better boundaries with others, putting lotion on your body after a shower with intention for appreciating your body, if you are a woman, doing breast massage with your favorite essential oils ( not only enhances breast health but is great for your lymphatic system), spending 30 minutes in stillness every day, walking in nature, etc Treat yourself like a queen or king and see what happens.

Although Kate was born under the sign of the CEO, Capricorn, she has a Leo rising. In our country, until the most recent president, every president since George Bush Sr, had either the sun or rising sign in Leo. Kate, however, was born under a full moon so her moon sign is Cancer. If the time that astro-theme has for her is correct, her north node is in the 12th house of the mystic, and in Cancer. She has a stellium of planets in the 6th house of service including her sun and Venus. Her Venus is in retrograde and her Saturn in the house of the mind makes a square to her moon. This usually means that she had a very austere mother and probably internalized a pretty big inner critic.

She needs to practice self care which is not easy for her. In my research for my new book coming out October 1, BreastQuake, I share in one chapter about the medical astrology of breast cancer. I studied the charts of 35 celebrities who have had breast cancer and all except Sheryl Crow had planets at the sun moon or ascendant in a water sign. Of the men, all had the astrological sign of Cancer at either the sun, moon, or ascendant. Cancer in medical astrology rules the breast. The thing that Kate need to watch is holding her emotions in because Capricorns can appear very stoic and with her being British and having the archetype of the judge, Saturn challenging her very sensitive moon can make for a tendency to hold in pain and allow it to get locked into the body. She still has lots of juicy hormones given her age of 41, but in 20 years, when estrogen is no longer protecting her, she could be susceptible to breast cancer. She will have huge responsibilities as queen and is more of an emotional person under that Leo persona than Queen Elizabeth was. Having her Venus retrograde and south node in the house of health means she has to take extra care of providing down time for herself to avoid illnesses after age 50 from an aggregate of unprocessed stress in her body. Sarah Ferguson who was once married to Prince Andrew was recently diagnosed with early stage breast cancer and has shared openly about the traumas she suffered when the press were so vicious at one time calling her ugly and Princess Diana, the pretty one. I looked up “Fergie’s” chart and she has her Mercury conjunct the ascendant in Scorpio, a water sign.

Does this mean that everyone who has water planets at the sun, moon, or ascendant are prone to cancer? No. But if one does self love and self care practices every day, I do believe in 80% of cases, any woman may be able to avert breast cancer if she does trauma release work. I give this example by way of saying to all women, at the end of every day, process any stress or traumatic experiences you may have had by scanning the day and releasing any emotions you are aware of from your body. Then, fill it with light. In a few months I will be offering a CD with guided meditations for enhancing your breast health and immune system.

What Breast Cancer and Astrology Has Taught me About My Life’s Work

Before my meditation every morning, I typically draw a tarot card from the Zen deck. This morning’s card was called Conditioning. The picture with this card is that of a lion surrounded by sheep. The passage speaks of the lion who was brought up by sheep and who thought he was a sheep until an old lion captured him and took him to a pond where he showed him his own reflection.

I grew up with parents who had each been raised in very tribal families. They continued a devotion to Catholicism and “working for the man”. Both my parents worked for a paycheck and pension until their retirement. At the end of their work day they were often wiped out from unfulfilling jobs that was only ameliorated by a cocktail and some kind of 60’s variety show on “the telly”.

I have three siblings and none of us have a job. Nothing wrong with having a job but the corporate workplace ( at least what I hear from my clients) has become a hostile environment that one merely survives in.

My brothers and I all chose to walk our own path with work that allowed us to be our own boss and contribute to society through work that is authentic to who we are. It is not easy to be a lion instead of a sheep. In the early days of my establishing my practice in a very competitive field, my father would urge me to get a job. I actually tried to work in a residential treatment facility for addiction twice but my passion for helping people find their soul’s purpose as part of recovery was not well received. It was finally explained to me by a marketing consultant to most of Malibu’s facilities at that time, that the business model in those facilities was built on return visits not complete recovery.

It takes courage to follow your own path and guidance perhaps from an “old lion”. I have been very fortunate to have had older women mentors along the way who definitely marched to their own drummer and encouraged me to do the same. I also know that when people have a tribe of their choosing who support them in taking risks to first discover and then follow through on their life’s work, the process of coming into one’s passionate purpose is accelerated.

Last year I developed an online course and never promoted it because I was sidelined by what was labeled, invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 1-2 breast cancer. I chose to be a lion not a sheep in my healing journey and researched alternative methods that did not involve any cutting and frying of my breast.

Let me first say this: I respect everyone’s decision to heal life threatening illnesses in accordance to what feels right for them. Although I did follow a 12 week protocol of high dose Vitamin C IVs, drinking essiac tea three times a day and an 80% plant based diet, what also allowed a shrinkage (biopsy showed a 2 cm mass to an MRI four months later showing a .5 cm mass) to occur was the support of 12 healer friends from all over the country directing healing energy toward me once a week on Zoom. What was also miraculous is that the biopsy report showed an invasive tumor originally. Four months later, the edges became circumscribed which usually indicates a benign mass. It was suggested by an integrative doc that what may be showing now is the mere shell at this point. In 3 months, when I go for an ultrasound, I should know for sure.

I am finally sharing this to not just inspire those facing life threatening illnesses but to give evidence for the power of group healing. I had so many people urging me to get a lumpectomy that I had many moments of questioning my decision to do this completely holistically.

Lynne McTaggart’s book The Power of Eight was a great inspiration. She studied in very scientifically structured clinical groups, the effects of non local healing where none of the senders or receivers were in the same room. I loved the idea but my fear of asking for help initially paralyzed me. I am accustomed to being the heal-er not the heal-ee. My friend Terri Crosby gently pushed me to give her the names of the friends I wanted in this healing community until I finally surrendered and was humbled by being the receiver. Ironically, what transformed for everyone in our group was that in giving healing, they received healing.

My LifeQuake in 2021 changed my life in immeasurable ways. My gratitude and commitment to helping others with their LifeQuakes in 2022 has increased ten fold. In 2020 and 2021 I gave two interviews on Gaia on my work The LifeQuake Repurposing Method to a tidal wave response. Some people could not afford to work with me privately but it stayed in my mind that when I was ready to expand my practice, that I would launch a group coaching program that would be more affordable for those wanting to make 2022 the year they began actuating their life’s work.

As of November, 38 million workers globally had quit their jobs in 2021.According to BusinessInsider.com “The pandemic made them feel life is too short to stay in a job they weren’t passionate about.”Although I admire anyone who takes a risk to move away from work that is not fulfilling, most of us need a coach and this is the year to do it!I feel inspired to extend an opportunity to begin a 9 month journey with a small group who are interested in repurposing their careers entitled Discovering and Manifesting Your Soul Purpose Amidst Global Upheaval in 2022. Seven Tips for Resilience While the Changing Planets Ignite Autumn

Historically, among early tribes and aboriginal peoples, when an individual had a breakdown it was seen as a breakthrough; that person often became a healer, shaman, or prophet. He or she would leave the tribe and go into the forest or desert on an initiatory journey. They were believed to have left the ordinary world behind to connect with the non- ordinary realm to bring new information and insight.

We are in an interesting time this month as the planets shift and change from several in retrograde motion to some moving forward. The archetype of Libra is asking of us to weigh things before speaking or taking action. Mars, the planet of aggression and how we move through life will continue to be in Libra throughout October. In the sign that rules diplomacy and seeing things from another’s perspective, there is an urgent call to do just that. The god of war will merge with the feminine new moon on Wednesday and will also tap dance with Mercury in retrograde also in Libra through this month.

The shadow side of Libra is considering too many options. Sun and Venus sign Librans are famous for their over mental processing of decisions and taking forever to take action. For this month, this is actually a good thing. This is a good time of doing research on future projects but not launching anything yet. Spend time in solitude whenever you can to nourish your kidneys. Libra rules the kidneys in medical astrology. Cultivate tolerance and peace with those whose opinions are different than your own. The most famous sun sign Libra example of this is Mohandas Gandhi.

October may bring financial upsets as we build toward the Taurus/Scorpio money lunar eclipse Nov 19^th.

November will bring all things Scorpio – Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars. We will have intense sex, money, and death themes showing up in the media and a lot of energy to move things forward. However, for now, focus on yours and your fellow humans peace using a contemplative practice that you find calming to your nervous system.

The more sleep you get this month will also serve your adrenals next month – Mars in Libra can really test the kidneys and when it goes into Scorpio on Halloween, the adrenals. For now, as the temperature drops in most parts of the country by month’s end, two great herbs for kidneys are dandelion and nettles. Dandelion and Nettles teas are both great support for the kidneys and so much better for you than an afternoon caffeine pick me up.

Before we knew about Covid, a friend came back from India with a vicious flu in February of 2020 and his partner swears that drinking these teas prevented him from ever getting it. The kidneys in Chinese medicine are the organ that most deals with fear so the more calm you can stay this month, the more it will serve your immune system. And having a strong immune system this winter is critical when revolution begins to emerge. Think – the 1960’s.

Surround yourself with people you feel at ease with and at home with this month as much as possible. Further, cultivate an optimism no matter what the news would have you believe is going on in the world.

Taking a stand for transformation emerging from the chaos is also prep for November. Be a source of fierce joy for yourself and everyone you connect with.

Although Mercury will go direct on Oct 18th, along with Jupiter and Saturn, I reiterate, wait until November to launch new projects. If you take on peace and empathy this month, your spiritual evolution ( and everyone else’s too) will go far.

Eight Tips for Thriving in the Midst of a Career Transition or LifeQuake

I was watching a film on Netflix about the American Revolution and those who spied for General Washington with the British army. We forget the courage it took for colonists to break from the British Empire. There are these moments during critical life transitions, where ordinary people with everything to lose do extraordinary things that unknown to them at the time, change the course of history.

We are in a time like that again. Hear the drum beat… We are building to the Sagittarius solar eclipse in December and in February of 2022, Pluto’s return to its placement in the chart where it was at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. There will be more expose’s of corruption in many major industries as the light frequency of 5th dimension reality pours onto the planet. It is important to note that in quantum physics, light brings up everything unlike itself to achieve oneness.

Nearly four million people left their jobs in April and a record number are not returning… to a job. Working remotely has shown millions of Americans that working from home ain’t so bad. This is all part of Pluto ( the planet of death and transformation) in Capricorn (the sign that rules career and society). When people come to me for career coaching, it is usually because they have ‘golden handcuffs syndrome’. They have benefits and profit sharing that is keeping them tied to Corporate America. Often they will say to me up front, they aren’t going to leave their job for two years or so but just want to be ready to do so. Within six months of working with me, they experience at the soul level, the path that shows their highest destiny and leave within the year. I’ve also helped some clients find a position better suited to them within their very same company.

What is unfortunate is the physical cost they have paid prior to calling me. People who are choosing discovery of their calling over job security are brave but in the long run, they are also saving themselves a ton of money! Waiting until you are 65 to retire may come with huge health issues. My grandfather had a stroke 6 months after he retired. Personally, I think we need to retire the word retire. The frequency for stepping into the transfunctional human ( a term I coined in 2009 for my book The LifeQuake Phenomenon) requires that we live in alignment not just with our true purpose but with what this new human body needs for this new frequency. Here are eight tips that will rapidly transform any career or financial upheaval.

Eight Tips for Becoming a Transfunctional Human

1) Eating organic food in quantities that allow you to stay within 10 pounds of your normal weight. Remember, you have six months to do this incrementally.

2)Stillness for 30 minutes a day.

3) Time in nature ( and if you do not live near any, get an MP3 download of nature sounds while you are in stillness).

4) At least 64 ounces of alkaline water to feed your electric body ( lemon or trace mineral drops will do).

5) Five min of visualization or prayer envisioning humanity coming together as a global family.

6) Joining with like minded others at least once a month in a quantum field healing activation.

7) Being kind to customer service reps in foreign countries with bad phone connections ( probably the toughest one at times to do!)

8) Setting an intention in the morning to bring joy to yourself and the world.

Things are going to start getting intense again by October as we build to the lunar eclipse in the money signs of Taurus and Scorpio in November. Pretend you are preparing for a marathon. If you take on most of the eight mentioned above, you will experience a body/mind/ and spirit transformation. When the Pluto Return arrives in late January- early February, you will have the transfunctional beingness to adapt, adapt, and adapt again. Those who cope with self medication of their emotions through the winter months may pay an even bigger price. When it is time for humankind to make an evolutionary leap and we are not aligned with the new frequency, there will be massive transitions off the planet. I was told this in a dream. I was also told that this is not tragic. It is merely a choice to be the human that the planet needs to make it through this climate crisis or not. We are always at choice and get to reincarnate and learn again…

Personally, I want this to be my last rodeo so I am doing most of these practices I give here myself and people have been remarking that I look radiant. Nature’s cosmetics…

Why Tonight's Pink Full Moon is so important

Pluto and Persephone are the Roman god and goddess of the underworld. Their sacred marriage gets revealed when we all listen to the feminine through our bodies and then bring the masculine god into action, even when it means speaking up for a truth that takes courage.

Here is a trivia question. What does Peter Buxton, Frank Serpico, and Karen Silkwood all have in common? If you read farther, I will share what made these ordinary people famous heroes.

Two weeks ago I had a dream in which Oprah was telling me that I needed to engage the part of me that is Aquarian and Sagittarian and be a whistleblower. Oprah by the way is an Aquarian with a Sag moon. I on the other hand, have no personal planets in Aquarius. In fact, my Saturn (where you are constricted or underdeveloped) is in Sagittarius and my Chiron, (where your childhood wound is that you are here to heal and help others with) is in Aquarius. I was born under the tender, sensitive sign in triplicate of feminine Cancer. In other words, this does not come easily to my nature. These two archetypes are more underdeveloped parts of me.

I mention this because if I am being called to stand up for my truth, then we all are. I just choose to use vulnerability as my strength. I have admired people who risk their lives selflessly to protect others or bring a truth to the public but I also know they lose their jobs and their lives. I am going to honor at least one brave soul in the past 60 years who has made our lives better for their heroism in each newsletter as we build to the solar eclipse in June.

Peter Buxton, a Caucasian public health service investigator in 1966 sent a letter to the national director of the Division of Venereal Diseases expressing his concerns about the ethics and morality of the extended U.S. Public Health Service Syphilis Study at Tuskegee.^[34] The CDC, which by then controlled the study, reaffirmed the need to continue the study until completion; i.e., until all subjects had died and been autopsied. This study went on for 40 years. To bolster its position, the CDC received unequivocal support for the continuation of the study, both from local chapters of the National Medical Association(representing African-American physicians) and the American Medical Association (AMA).^[6]

Buxtun finally went to the press in the early 1970s. The story broke first in the Washington Star on July 25, 1972, reported by Jean Heller of the Associated Press.^[9] It became front-page news in the New York Times the following day. Google Tuskegee experiment to understand why the uneducated Black poor today might be hesitant to receive a covid shot.

Frank Serpico was a NY city police officer who reported several of his fellow officers for bribery and related charges in front of the Knapp Commission probing police corruption in the NYPD. “Serpico was the first police officer in the history of the NYPD to step forward to report and subsequently testify openly about widespread, systemic corruption payoffs amounting to millions of dollars.[12] The 1973 film Serpico with Al Pacino is an account of his story.” A great film to watch and according to the real Serpico, stayed true to his book. He had to leave the country due to death threats. There are to this day, NY city cops who believed he was a traitor but there was a significant change in “business as usual practices” after his testimony about N.Y.P.D. police culture.

Karen Silkwood ( played by Meryl Streep in the 1983 movie) was the first prominent nuclear power whistleblower who worked as a chemical technician at a Kerr-McGee nuclear plant. She was the last person you would have thought to become an activist. Silkwood became an activist in the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union in order to protest health and safety issues. In 1974, she testified to the United States Atomic Energy Commission about her concerns. The film Silkwood was brilliant. I encourage seeing it if you haven’t.

These people were ordinary citizens who stood up for justice. Under this full moon in Scorpio tonight and for the next five months as Pluto retrogrades. this god is calling us to go deep into ourselves and excavate what we are afraid to speak up against. The full moon in Scorpio is meant to honor the dark goddess Persephone. She accesses intuitive wisdom through listening to our bodies. Pay attention to your dreams for the next two nights. Before sleeping, light a candle to the feminine face of God. ( she came to me as Oprah Winfrey!) What is she calling you to act on?Remember that if we give the underworld god and goddess their due through looking at where we stand in the way of our power, they also bring us wealth. Frank Serpico risked his life but he was also set for life ( he now lives in upstate NY) from his book and the film. But that is not the only way to feel wealthy. Getting to the end of your life and knowing you lived in truth is the greatest expression of prosperity I know. More to the point though is that we are building now to two very powerful eclipses on May 26th and June 10th in Sagittarius and Gemini ( the rulers of truth and lies in media and communication). More is going to be revealed, I predict.

Pay attention daily to looking through social and broadcast media not at. If you lean back into your body wisdom, you will hear what is propaganda and what is the truth. I invite you to be a whistleblower in your community in whatever modest ways you feel pulled to speak up around.

Practical Tools for Moving Through Personal and Global LifeQuakes

How the god of death and transformation brings his gold

In a world that aspires for things to “go viral”, we will never eliminate viruses, but we can allow them to transform every part of us that causes a weakened immune system. That is the grand paradox!

How are you sleeping these days? So many of my clients and friends have reported having sleep issues recently as well as myself. And the most common time of awakening seems to be around 3:00 AM. In Chinese medicine, this is the transition time from the liver to the lungs. The liver holds our anger and even rage, where the lungs hold our grief. Can you relate? Have you felt both these emotions as well as perhaps a feeling of helplessness when someone you care about has been ill or died this past year? Two members of my family who are younger than me are dealing with late stage cancers diagnosed in the last year.

Although this recent virus has had a catastrophic effect worldwide, there are other viruses still claiming lives and the numbers are climbing. According to UNAIDS : There were approximately 38 million people across the globe with HIV/AIDS in 2019. Of these, 36.2 million were adults and 1.8 million were children (<15 years old). 700,000 people died from AIDS related illnesses. And just like the most recent virus and its variants, those hardest hit are in low and middle income areas and countries. 80% of the world population is estimated to be carrying the Human Papilloma Virus ( also referred to as HPV) which can be transmitted by any genital contact not just through semen. This virus, if left undetected, can progress to cervical cancer in women and in smaller numbers, strain #16, throat cancer in men.

So why am I writing about this in an astrology tips newsletter? In medical astrology, Pluto rules cancer and viruses and we are a global family and therefore are bring affected by other viruses as well. I think the AIDS epidemic was the first time Western Civilization was confronted by the planet Pluto who is a complicated and diverse planet in its effect on humanity. And he lives within each of us somewhere in your astrological chart. He rules power and the abuse of power. He rules death and he rules transformation. He rules wealth and if you are having a hard Pluto transit, your shadow around money may be revealed and yes, microbes too. What is significant right now is that as he moves through the sign of Capricorn which governs society’s mores, political structures, father figures, and our career and life purpose, we are seeing the death of an old paradigm in any system that is outdated. Pluto will get within ¾ of one degree of the U.S. chart before it retrogrades until October, 2021. For those new to my newsletter, this is the first return of this planet to where it was at the signing of the Declaration of Independence. We broke from an empire and then formed the most powerful empire in history, in terms of global influence.

Further, it has evolved in a very different way than the Roman or British Empire which was more about land accumulation. The Leo north node of the U.S. chart shows its destiny was meant to lead the world, but empires typically last about 200 years. We are 44 years past that. Our influence on the world stage has been losing respect for some time now because like a computer with outdated programs (ie. those that give power to the patriarchy), a LifeQuake was bound to happen and paradoxically, to bind us to one another as a global family rather than nationalism in any country in the world. Before most of us knew we were about to enter a pandemic, I shared on Dr Sue Morter’s show The Healing Matrix last January on GAIA, that while we are still living in a dual universe, we are transforming… or dying is through the proliferation of viruses and addiction.

It is a waste of human energy to focus blame on who is responsible for the latest virus. We all are. Having contracted the Epstein Barr Virus at 30, I’ve been studying viruses for a long time. Viruses proliferate in a toxic environment. You may be a great recycler and eat organic food but if your thoughts still tend to judgmentalism and dual thinking of good people and bad people, you make yourself more vulnerable to viruses. I certainly did.

Do the math on those stats I put up above and that was just 3 of the many we are exposed to. You are most likely carrying around a few yourself asymptomatically. I believe that if we want to end poverty ( those who are hardest hit), we must end our poverty consciousness within. How are your thoughts creating inner and outer pollution? Conversely, how are they helping the collective consciousness to evolve? The earth is composed of 71% water. According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. Water is a powerful conduit.

In Jungian psychology, water symbolizes emotions. How you talk to yourself informs the health of your inner biome. Water holds your emotions more toxically than a piece of cake will ever do. Is it no surprise that our oceans are in such a toxic state?

Every day we are being given contrary information about what to do about the current global virus. First it was social distancing and mask wearing in public gatherings will fix it. Half the people stopped doing that, so it didn’t work . Then it was the vaccine. And the most current information from the CDC is that even if you have been vaccinated twice and it has been 14 days, it is best to continue wearing a mask and social distancing until we reach (now they are saying 80% herd immunity whenever that is). And that with the variants, you will need to get a booster because the CDC is now saying that the efficacy of the vaccine is about one year. I am not anti-vaccine. If it makes you less fearful or more safe or you want to travel this summer, I get it. I am looking at longer term solutions that we do have control over.

Epidemiologists are all predicting another pandemic coming as well. Well, Pluto doesn’t hit exactitude to its return to the natal chart of the U.S. until next February, 2022. We are not out of the waters for some time before we get all the transformation it is here to bring. And speaking of water, Neptune in its own sign of Pisces is asking of us to clean up the water by getting off our oil dependency. This god showed himself in the ship fiasco recently. What a metaphor that was. According to the N.Y. Times, “the Suez Canal is not just any waterway. It is a vital channel linking the factories of Asia to the affluent customers of Europe, as well as a major conduit for oil.”

Restructuring the world’s mind set of lack takes time. We will not thrive until we truly handle hunger, disease, poverty, and the massive disparity of economics on this planet. As Buckminster Fuller said, “A world where no one is left behind.” I was told in a dream last year that in the new world coming, countries that have wide economic disparity will not survive.

No one in the broadcast news except the integrative medical community is talking about what losing weight ( if you are overweight), meditating, giving up fermented sugar, and eating a more organic, alkaline diet will do for you and mostly they only get on alternative stations. Messages that don’t engender fear but provide ways to take personal responsibility and control are banned. I have personally witnessed people who do live those lives and have repeatedly been exposed to this virus from others, repeatedly also have tested negative on Covid tests.

Pluto redeems us if we go to his underworld and do our shadow work. He rules secrets and addictions. What addictions have you not been willing to look at and heal? I’ve been looking at my social media one, personally. If we integrate every part of us that is shame based in some way by acknowledging it and choosing to love that part, we heal ourselves and the planet. Who would have thought that my not gathering many thousands of followers would bring up feelings of guilt for not focusing on this? And as the myth goes, if we bow before Pluto in the underworld (anyone who has ever gone to an Anonymous meeting and admitted they were an ___aholic can relate to this), he will deliver wealth in whatever areas it will serve your soul the most.

The Agony and Ecstasy When Planets Collide

We all like to talk about being in the 5th dimension but the sixth dimension is the true life transition where we are headed: where the dark and the light dance together as brothers and sisters knowing they need each other for transformation to take place. This is the beginning of moving through a time of uncertainty and coming into non-duality.

Do ya’ feel like you’ve been on a roller-coaster ride this past year that feels nothing like Disney’s Space Mountain except for the twists and turns? Welcome to Covid 20-21, ahem, I mean the greatest spiritual transition we’ve seen on the planet since the 15^th century. Warning: More historical references to the Italian Renaissance. As I’ve been watching this series on Netflix called Medici: Masters of Florence about the most powerful banking family in Florence during the early Renaissance, one of the things I was struck by was the contrast between the emergence of great artists and Cosimo Medici’s support of some of them. The visionary artist Filippo Brunelleschi, is an example. He is the architect that designed Il Duomo di Firenze. It was the first architectural construct of its time as cathedrals go that was composed of a single shell and yet simultaneously, Florence was also dealing with the catastrophic spread of the Black Plague.

What distinguished the Medici family from other banking families (which almost bankrupted them at times because other bankers opposed their altruism) was their philosophy in helping the poor so more people were elevated and the hygiene issue that contributed so much to those who had nothing could be transformed. They probably also knew that without cheap labor, their infrastructure would collapse. The Medicis were a shining example of the extremes of dark and light with their Shakespearean (and might I say, Machiavellian) tragedies. At that time and once again, we have the planets Saturn in Aquarius (responsibility around humanity) and Uranus in Taurus (ruling new ways of doing banking and financing). These two archetypes square one another, so the conditions that often manifest as great enlightenment coming to the planet such as plagues, can also produce alchemy and prolific creativity. Turning lead into gold requires friction and high spiritual consciousness applied to the process. Further, this time around we also have Pluto, the god of death and transformation in the sign of Capricorn making a return to the place it was at on the day we declared Independence from the British. It is getting very close now to exactitude before it retrogrades in April so the subject of personal independence versus the good of the collective is a big topic this last year. Early next year in 2022, it will go exact. As Capricorn rules society and its structures, we are seeing through the catalyst of our most recent plague, far reaching changes in many areas and more to come: education, commerce, the workplace itself being restructured, new healing modalities, etc.

As it was at the time of the Renaissance, art and creativity in general are proliferating along with more viruses until more people experience the relationship between their immune system flourishing and their lives aligned with their soul’s purpose. At least, this is my sense. For those into social media, “something going viral” is applauded as a great success, right? Here we have manifested its dark side, an acute mutating virus.

The interview I gave on Beyond Belief with George Noory on the Gaia network aired two weeks ago to a huge response. Over a thousand people joined my LifeQuake Tips for Managing Change newsletter and I personally received at least one hundred and counting emails from people who reported feeling equally moved by my message and yet at the same time, in angst or misery in a job that doesn’t fulfill them. Five Clues You’re in a LifeQuake and Not in a Clinical Depression

Recently I was interviewed on the telesummit Overcoming Anxiety and Depression with Ande Anderson addressing the management of depression and anxiety. Although I’ve been a clinically trained psychotherapist for many years, my specialty is not working with people who have chronic, long term mood disorders. I prefer to help people in major life transitions find their vocation of destiny. I do however, work with people whose emotions are compromised by continuing to live a life they’ve outgrown. If you stay too long in a what I call a defunct life, the pressure that builds from the soul to move on can translate into what I coined in 1990 as a ‘LifeQuake’: the birthing pains of the soul waking up to the next level of its evolution.

So what is distinct about the depression and anxiety that can come with LifeQuakes and how should they be treated by the professional who is working with such a patient or client?

There is an onset. You can clearly remember a time when your work life was stimulating or other parts of your life enlivened you so the stark contrast doesn’t feel familiar.

2) The work you’ve been doing leaves you drained but when you go into nature, your energy picks up or doing Yoga or Qi Gong at the end of a work day refills your tank. Your work and/or relationships may leave you feeling depressed but there are activities that do bring your energy up.

3) People who are part of groups that you no longer feel an affinity with also drain you, especially when they are discussing the philosophy of that group such as a religious organization, sports team, or 12 step recovery program.

4) Your dietary needs change. For example, eating a vegan diet if you’ve been on that program for a while may now not provide enough protein or the reverse. Eating a lot of animal protein in your diet may weigh you down. Because a LifeQuake is a rebirthing process of the soul, the body that houses the soul may be going through an evolutionary process that requires different food to nourish you now.

5) What people care about on social media or in the news begins to feel strange, like you belong on another planet. In a dark night of the soul, the ego-based identity you’ve been operating from begins to die as it withdraws from an old life and begins a journey toward the soul. A numbness to one’s outer life can take over. Clinical Depression can look like this too but the call here is not to take anti-depressant meds although amino acids that address mood can be very helpful. What alleviates this kind of Depression is time in meditation or contemplation within yourself. There are also guided meditations that can help to connect you with your soul and your soul purpose during your Dark Night. The key here in distinguishing a LifeQuake from a mood disorder although they may feel the same is to slow down and listen. Take the time to deeply listen to your body and pay attention to what I call divine coincidences – a synchronicity in which your soul is magnetizing events from your outer life to guide you. If you choose to not go the pharmaceutical route to manage your emotions, it will be easier to remember your dreams. The dreamtime is when the waters of the unconscious can be accessed to greater depth. Ask for direction before sleeping and then write down what you remember in the morning. The Dark Night of the Soul has the potential to birth you into a more authentic version of yourself, especially if you work with your disowned emotions at this time. What may feel heavy can become the very stuff that creates a more radiant version of yourself if you open to the light from the universe. This is the alchemy of leaded consciousness into the golden mind. A LifeQuake miracle emerges through your new identity and the work you were meant to do can happen in the next chapter of your life, if you are courageous enough to first just be in the time in between.

How to Use Uncertainty for Success During Mercury Retrogrades

Mercury Retrogrades are given a bad rap. Yes, technology does tend to go more awry and communication breakdowns of all sorts increase in frequency. However, in a world hell bent on always moving forward, having time to go back over what you’ve done already and catching any mistakes or incorporating new ideas into a project or work objective can make the difference between something being ok and reflecting excellence.

People who pay attention to Mercury retros but are not astrologers can sometimes make the mistake in thinking you only need to avoid making long term commitments from the day it officially begins and the day it officially ends. Not so. Case in point: I sent a book proposal to a publishing house that arrived 4 days before the retrograde began and when I followed up at the end of the retro (giving them time to peruse it), somehow it had gotten put in the wrong person’s office and was on a desk no one was using. If the project or agreement is really important, I recommend keeping track of all three Mercury retrogrades for the year and getting things agreed upon two weeks prior and waiting until two weeks after, if possible.

Something else that can happen during a Mercury retrograde is the appearance of people from your past or an opportunity from the past that you thought was long dead. This is not to be discounted. I wouldn’t make any decisions about them until Mercury is moving full speed ahead, but pay attention to what comes back from the past to be reckoned with.

Because Mercury retrogrades are meant to be used for reflection, they are a good time to start a meditation practice. Focus on listening for messages on your vocation of destiny if you are in a major life transition. Discovering your life purpose or finding your soul’s true purpose can best be revealed when we are not in action mode of launching or maintaining the work we’ve always done. I recommend resting more during them and if possible, taking a nap every day.

Here’s something else no one ever talks about with Mercury retrogrades that meditation can help enhance: becoming a better communicator. So much emphasis is put on the breakdowns in communication that occur. If you know that your text or email might be misinterpreted, don’t treat it as fate. Take the time to pick up the phone and call the person or at least give it some thought and another draft with the right emoji to set the tone you want. ☺️

If someone pressures you to make a decision during a retro and you feel uneasy about it, promise to get back to them the next day or in a few days and take it into your inner counsel during meditation. Mindfulness practices really come in handy when the “winged messenger” is dancing backwards.

Keeping a dream journal during Mercury retrogrades can also be helpful to receiving information or creative ideas. Sometimes, if one is in a big career transition and at a loss for the next step, the dark night of the soul that can descend can take you much deeper into your psyche and avail you to spiritual helpers that come through your dreams. When we are ensconced in our career identity, dreams can often be filled with, well, the work day. If a Mercury retrograde is happening and you are unsure about your next step professionally, keep a dream journal next to your bed and write the date of the next morning with the affirmation: “I am remembering my dreams as I awaken in the morning. “ When you wake up, don’t move your head. Go back through the dream and note the emotional tone of the scenes and the characters. Then write it down. If you meditate in the morning, bring your dream to your meditation and ask, “what do I need to know right now? When do I need to take action?”

One last tip for using Mercury retrogrades to achieve success is to begin a practice every evening of scanning back through the entire day emotionally. What were you feeling when you woke up? Did that change after your meditation? Note how you were being throughout the day. Were there any synchronicities or divine coincidences during the day? What messages might you have ignored? If you keep a waking journal during retrogrades as well, when you re-read the entries, it may provide a written record that makes connecting the dots to what to do next much clearer.

Although Mercury retrogrades are not a time to take new action on things you cannot get out of, if you follow these tips, you will have a “medicine basket of data” to use when the planet of communication is moving full speed ahead. Living in balance means knowing when to be yin ( inner direction) and when to be yang ( outer directed) and Mercury retrogrades, if we are following the flow of the energy, can give us an abundance of opportunities from yin to fuel yang when it goes direct. Just remember to wait at least a week after it goes into direct motion, when it has its full mojo.
