The Most Powerful Mercury Retrograde of the Decade( What Miley Cyrus, John Lennon and Mahatma Gandhi have in common)

This is one very powerful week if you use your intuition to guide you. Logic will not serve so well. 

I cannot stress enough the importance of taking time during this Mercury retro to reflect. The planet has already begun slowing down to only 25 % of its normal speed and will officially stop moving forward on Oct 31^st.  The planet that rules the mind and language Mercury wants us to redo during a retrograde. RE  everything: like re-visit something, renovate, recreate something already done. As it is in Scorpio, old lovers may come back. I discovered today that I need to cut 950 words from my book, before I turn it in to my publisher. What discoveries of do over might you have to engage this next 4 weeks? 
Further, during this retrograde, its normal two – week journey through each sign will last until December in the sign of Scorpio. You are being called to penetrate deeply and shed what is no longer authentic to the who of you that wants to emerge in the next decade. The symbol for Scorpio in ancient Egypt was the snake not the scorpion. Although there are people with personal planets in Scorpio who express the “ I will seduce you and then annihilate you, energy”, most are driven to experience death and transformation, like the snake shedding its skin.

I thought I would share a little about how we can express the energy of Mercury in Scorpio in these next 6 weeks by looking at the charts of both John Lennon and Gandhi. Both had their sun signs in Libra, the sun sign we are just leaving. The archetype of Libra seeks peace and harmony but Mercury in Scorpio demands us to penetrate the falseness of society and expose its shadow. Both men had this juxtaposition and used their professional talents to simultaneously invoke chaos while at the same time, the end goal being peace and liberation. 

As I have mentioned before, Scorpio rules death. Both were assassinated. They were willing to go to their death. as both had had many death threats previous to their demise. I’m not suggesting that everyone has the courage to face death for their beliefs in a better world, but I am encouraging you to penetrate deep into your own shadow for where you are afraid to speak out or just feel uncomfortable with change. Is there a change needing to come through you that you fear will threaten you economically or trigger the loss of someone you care about?

One of the aspects of Mercury in Scorpio is being an unrelenting investigator and researcher. Kim Kardashian (Mercury in Scorpio) has claimed that she would stop at nothing to expose someone cheating on a friend of hers. The lesson to extract here in a more enlightened sense is to observe who triggers you in your life and then penetrate into your own subconscious mind, “Where does that tendency in them, live in me?” 

I invite you to also observe, “where is my inner Gandhi or Lennon?” “Where can I be a greater advocate for the world?” “How can I be persuasive for the good of everyone?”

The energy of Scorpio rules acquiring other people’s resources. Scorpios are good at this. Asking for personal help or getting people behind a cause, they are great at!  I will share here a part of my shadow that is also my lesson and hopefully you will write me with yours. 

I have my north node in Scorpio so it is a lesson for me. Those who know me ( or have been reading this newsletter for awhile) know that I experience great discomfort when I ask for a favor unless I have an intimate relationship with that person. I die a thousand deaths around marketing.

When I put up my new website, even though most people in my field put up testimonials in their newsletters and their websites without giving it a second thought, it was extremely uncomfortable for me to do so. My stomach was in knots when it went live. The only way I got around my anxiety was to think about how I want to serve humanity with my work. I have a unique combination of skills and no one will know if I don’t share the results and experiences of clients I’ve worked with, but part of my shadow is that I was raised to not toot your own horn.

The triple New York Times best selling author, Marci Shimoff wrote the foreward to my 10 year anniversary update of The LifeQuake Phenomenon coming out in April and although I know Marci, I had to get past my clenched stomach to ask her, as I know how busy she is.

Thankfully, she believes in this book and was most gracious in saying yes and wrote a beautiful foreward.

Sunday, Oct 27^th is a big day: In India, they celebrate Diwali – the festival of light over darkness and spend the day cleaning and preparing the home for the evening ritual. The moon is void from 1:21 AM -1:29 PM. PDT Have a lazy sensual morning or spend time within, now that we have so much transformational Scorpio energy present or… clean house and get ready for the new moon tonight!

8:38 PM PDT  – the sun and moon converge and a new cycle begins this month.  NEW MOON IN SCORPIOThe Sun and the Moon and Mercury and Venus will all be in passionate, transformational  Scorpio. Sunday evening or Monday morning, set your intention for this month in this new cycle.  The symbol from Elias Lonsdale’s “Inside Degrees” is “An Egyptian queen with a braided beard.” The braided beard was a symbol of the male pharaohs and so when a female became pharaoh, she would don a fake beard.

Irrespective of gender, what feminine part of yourself can you enhance to support your real power?

At 10:20 AM, PDT on Wednesday, Oct 23 the Sun goes into the sign of Scorpio, joining Mercury and Venus. Yes, everyone has a place in their life where the archetype of Scorpio lives. Astrology addresses it through the houses it rules in your chart, aspects to Pluto and/or personal planets in the sign if you have them. The duality of Scorpio is that on one hand, it is where we feel passion, but it is also where the heaviest attachments live.

Ask anyone born with their Sun, Moon, Rising sign, or Venus in the sign of Scorpio about addiction and they will roll their eyes. They’ve been to their share of twelve step meetings or therapists! Although Taurus, its opposing sign also suffers from addictions of various sorts, Scorpio, because it rules ego death and transformation will roll their sleeves up and do the shadow work that it can take people with personal planets in (I hate change) Taurus years to get to. Having said that, everyone is getting hit by “Change NOW, Uranus” as it moves through Taurus because just as Scorpio rules a house in your chart, So does Taurus. This can be where you most resist change.

Although he was a sun sign, freedom loving Sagittarian, Jim Morrison, the lead singer for The Doors in the 1960’s had his Venus in Scorpio (a fascination with sex and death) and his midheaven (vocation of destiny point) also in Scorpio. The song “Break on Through to the Other Side” launched a generation to expand the mind beyond this reality. Well, that requires dying to parts of yourself, so you don’t have to physically die from addiction as he did. Having Scorpio on his vocational destiny point did inform his work life through music to inspire people to face what they fear most. What will it take for you to be fearless in your life? At that time, it was believed by people like Jim and Timothy Leary that it comes through LSD. The expansion of consciousness that came through so many young people taking hallucinogenic drugs 50 years ago created a portal of awakening for the mass consciousness to shift.

Although it, and other hallucinogenic drugs such as psilocybin are now being used in clinical settings to treat mood disorders, we have available to us access to higher states of awareness without these drugs. Yoga Nidra and other forms of meditation have become mainstream and are preparing us as we make this next shift in consciousness.

For the rest of this year and decade, we are all being called to die to what no longer serves us stepping into this new decade in January. Wait until after lunch to take important meetings, buy anything, or have surgical procedures.Take the morning off and do something fun! When the moon goes into Virgo in the afternoon, then you can step back into your analytical mind, attend to details, and make commitments.

Wednesday, 10:20 AM – the Sun enters Scorpio so we now have Mercury, Venus, and the Sun in the sign of ego death and transformation. What are you passionate about? What needs to die so that can be birthed?

Friday, October 25 – 6:00 AM -1:19 PM PDT – Another void moon day ( most of the day for the East), this time in Virgo until it moves into Libra at 1:20 PM PDT, 4:20 PM EDT. Void moon in Virgo is great for editing. Edit your documents, projects, closet,etc. Just wait until the afternoon when the scales of justice Libra kicks in to take a stand that might be difficult to get out of.

The Autumn full moon in Aries is a doozy! It is fiery and squaring Saturn and Pluto in Cap. This full moon along with the planet of death now moving forward in the sign that rules society Capricorn is asking of us to die to the past. Full moons are about releasing and completing, just as new moons are about beginnings. However, with Pluto now direct, we are all being called to look at our shadow. What habits are keeping you from stepping into your fullest potential self? How evolved is your base foundation chachra? Are you living from survival or from absolute trust to begin a new chapter in your life that is guided by your soul’s purpose.

There is no hiding out in an inauthentic life in this new decade. Amazing how many marriages and careers are transitioning! All over the globe, celebrations are going on during this Aries full moon to clear out the memory of the women’s holocaust as it is referred to – 500 years of women and some men who practiced as healers and herbalists were labeled as witches and went to their deaths for it.
I have worked with so many clients who are in the healing arts who fear stepping into the limelight because they carry this unconscious wound. Take a moment tonight and meditate on where you might fear your spiritual power if it means others might feel envious of you and criticize you in social media, for example. Brene Brown, in her Netflix special Call to Courage shared her own cyber bullying experience. Or, if you leave your job to follow a calling, who in your family will feel threatened?

With the full moon in Aries, the archetype being called out is indeed courage, from the Latin coeur, speaking from the heart. Can you stand in the alchemical fire of transmutation and come into 2020 playing full out? The work that has been coming through me with my coaching clients is all about collapsing time and bringing your “parallel universe already evolved self” back into the nervous system and etheric body of the present. People are having huge breakthroughs.

Thomas Wolfe was Asheville, North Carolina’s most famous native. He was a contemporary of both Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. All three men had one thing in common in their writing, the great editor, Max Perkins. In the film Genius, their relationship and the art of editing are examined, according to Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times, as a first.

I came across this film on Amazon as I was slogging through the edit of my own book The LifeQuake Phenomenon (a 10 year anniversary update to be released in the Spring of 2020). As we are in the time of Libra: the Sun, Mercury for a few more days, and Mars about to go into this chatter box sign, I thought it was fitting to write about a Libran writer, Thomas Wolfe. Like so often in life, what someone become known for depicts something particular in their personal life. What most people associate to Thomas Wolfe is the phrase, “you can never go home again.”

The irony here is that he literally couldn’t go back home to North Carolina after his book Look Homeward, Angel was published. He had so thinly disguised 200 prominent members of the Asheville community unfavorably that there was outrage in his home town. What I found hilarious in my research about Wolfe is that after the book’s success, when his next book, Of Time and the River came out four years later, the citizens of Asheville were said to have complained because he hadn’t written about them.

In astrology, Jupiter rules expansion, publishing and luck, but Saturn rules editing. Wolfe’s first book had been turned down numerous times because it was 1100 pages. Hemingway referred to Wolfe ( played by Jude Law) as “the over-bloated Li’l Abner of literature”.

Without his married lover (played by Nicole Kidman) using her influence to get to Scribner Publishing House, and then meeting the great yet humble Saturn like icon, Max, his book would never have been published. Max made it into a novel people would read at 544 pages.

Most writers who become successful have both Jupiter and Saturn well placed in their charts.

When I wear the vocational astrology hat in my career coaching and the client has an aspiration to become a writer, I look at their Saturn and Jupiter aspects. I also look at timing. Thomas Wolfe’s first book came out 9 days before the stock market crash of ’29. Did he have great timing or what? As an aside, J.P. Morgan, America’s first billionaire claimed that astrology saved him from the Wall Street disaster. I digress.People were looking for something to soothe them and a novel about small town life was a great salve for the gaping wound America was feeling. It will be interesting to observe what successful books get published next year, if we do have a recession.

The great writers of the even Greater Depression flourished. They were following their passion. Keeping a safe but unfulfilling job in a time when as a species we are changing our very matrix will not work.

Astrology Tips for the Week:

1. We have only one void moon day and it isn’t until Friday morning and ends at 11:30AM PDT, 2:30 PM EDT
2. The big challenge is that we are in a moon wobble and Mercury is void of its course until it goes into Scorpio on Thursday. Mercury void of course is like a mini retrograde. I had a massive computer, email and website virus this week but didn’t discover that Mercury was VOC until this morning. My first ever. Make sure your anti-virus programs are working well.
3. Mars is also void of its course now until Friday morning. Keep your emotions steady and don’t get into your car angry.
4. Mercury will begin slowing down in 3 weeks preparing for its cha cha backwards. We are in the new moon energy now which is great for initiating new projects. I would just wait until Thursday for anything new. I like to give you this information about Mercury retros now so you can plan ahead for these periods that are apt to be challenging in the communication and publishing arenas.

So yes, move ahead mindfully in a few days but remember that the energy around us and in us is not very stable as we build to this next solar eclipse in this last quarter of the last year of this decade. I will share more about that in the next newsletter.
