Discovering a new archetype for the Inner Father and having a real relationship with him is key to shifting the political paradigm for leadership.
Dr. Toni Galardi
Ok, get ready. I’m taking the gloves off.
Many of us have worked very hard on clearing faulty programs we received from our family lineage, no doubt. However, there is a program that is so important to transmute that lives in almost everyone: the desire to belong. It can be in the obvious ways like wanting the approval of your family, belonging to whomever you have made your spiritual family, keeping your spouse happy, or the approval of people you work with. And, it can be in less subtle ways, comparing yourself to people who post on social media about their supposedly great lives, not standing behind someone in a meeting that you know is right but everyone else doesn’t, or abandoning your self care because it conflicts with the desire of one of your kids or grandkids to chauffeur them somewhere. Yes, we are tribal people but at what cost? In early primitive times, adhering to the tribe’s mores determined your survival. If you didn’t agree with the “truth” of the tribal shaman or leader, you could be cast out and die.
And those memories live in our DNA. When everyone around you is in agreement on a particular matter and you stand up and voice your opinion, if you stand alone, there could be a cost. You might get fired or the family may turn against you and your inheritance goes bye bye, etc. How brave are you in standing up for your truth when you might risk your financial security or the loss of love? Are there choices you are making right now that stand in the way of you being able to follow your soul’s next calling?
The planetary line up in Capricorn this year that is meant to deconstruct societal mores is bringing up big stuff for people. Long standing addictions (ahem, the internet and co-dependency count) eating cleanly that supports you and the environment, and/or choosing intimate relationships that are aligned with your heart’s deepest desires are all ascending to the surface of our consciousness to be healed.
People who have personal planets in the sign of Capricorn, Cancer, Libra, and Aries are really feeling this and have been since 2009. An example of someone in Hollywood who managed to break from family tradition and speak out is Michael Douglas. Michael Douglas is a Libran with a Capricorn moon. Very few men whose fathers were also very powerful icons in the film industry ever surpassed them and became mega successful in their own right. Women yes, but men not very many.
This is my opinion of course from looking at the charts of both Kirk and Michael but I would say that Dad initially felt a little threatened when Michael moved from being a big tv star to his domain in movies. Kirk himself was a trailblazer in his time, one of the first actors to break from the studio system and find his own projects. Later in his career, he acquired the rights to a script that he couldn’t get made. Kirk had originated the role of McMurphy in the 1963–64 Broadway stage version of the Ken Kesey novel. He had purchased the film rights to the story, and tried for a decade to bring it to the big screen, but was unable to find a studio willing to make it with him. Eventually, he sold the rights to his son Michael who succeeded in getting the film produced—but the elder Douglas, by then nearly 60, was considered too old for the McMurphy role, which ultimately went to 38-year-old Jack Nicholson. Kirk didn’t believe his son could pull off getting this film off the ground. When Michael Douglas won the major academy awards in every category ( five) for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, he took the statue and placed it in front of his father at his table in front of the whole world. Moon in capricorn people care a lot about what people think of them and are driven to succeed and because Capricorn rules the father, are often deeply tied to their father’s approval. Michael is quoted as having said that in his early days, he didn’t really even enjoy acting. My sense is that because he was given so many talents, until he got into producing and directing was he able to realize his full potential.
When Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2010, his doctors informed him that the HPV virus was mostly the culprit and this silent disease that has steadily been increasing in women in the form of cervical cancer, suddenly had big news around the world because now, it was, and is affecting men. The rates of throat cancer in the past 10 years comparatively speaking, has sky rocketed. Michael could have stayed silent and chose, much to his wife’s chagrin, to go public with the information. We are living through an HPV epidemic in both men and women,” said Dr. Dennis Kraus, director of the Center for Head and Neck Oncology at North Shore- LIJ Cancer Institute in Lake Success, N.Y. “We used to think of throat and neck cancer as a disease of smokers and drinkers,” he said, but the demographics have changed and it’s increasingly become a sexually contracted disease.” Michael was brave to speak out given his chart shows that he is one who cares a lot about what people think of him. Perhaps having been able to express his full potential gifts empowered his speaking out. Although oral sex does contribute to contracting the human papilloma virus, in body psychology, not speaking your truth and/or lying can as well, along with smoking. Librans have the disease to please challenge on top of this. Here is where the planetary gods have their way with us: Pluto, the planet that rules cancer and ego death and transformation was merging with Michael’s moon, the subconscious and his emotions at the time of his diagnosis. That cool detached Capricorn moon was being purged. On top of that, Saturn, the elder who demands responsibility, was merging with his sun sign, Libra. He was being called by his soul (and probably his doctor) to speak out and get this vital information out there.
Another emotion tied to wanting approval from our tribe is shame. Dr Brene Brown has spoken brilliantly on this subject. If you want to free yourself from social, marital, and professional prostitution, transmute where you carry shame. A great way to know where that is, shows up when someone triggers you and you lose your temper.
We are living in a time when taking the leap of faith and decostructing what is inauthentic in your lifestyle habits, healing toxic shame, discerning authentically who you surround yourself with, and the work you choose, are as fundamental to thriving in this new decade as cleaning up the environment is… and there is a direct connection.

Astrology Tips for Your Work Week
- We are in the new moon energy until February 7th when the full moon begins the waning phase for the following two weeks. There are also no retrograde planets until Mercury around that same time starts moving backward, so this is a great time to launch new projects.
- Start your weekend on Friday, January 31st and if you can’t take the weekend off, stick to fun things not involving financial decisions: the moon is void in the sign that rules money, Taurus.
- Speak out on something that feels risky but true to following your calling. We are transitioning this year from the last residue of conforming Capricorn into Aquarius. Activate your inner Martin. MLK was a Capricorn sun with his Mercury in Aquarius. Be wiling to stand up and fight for the needs of your soul. Humanity needs you to. Have a soul-filled week!
With great love and affection,
Dr. Toni
